HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE NUCLEAR RADIATION

A well-documented general rule of capitalist business is that capitalists endlessly strive to reduce regulations placed upon them by governments. The nuclear energy industry is no exception. For decades the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Association) and its advocates have promoted the concept of radiation hormesis, which posits that low doses of ionizing radiation are beneficial to humans. The promoters of this theory of hormesis recently petitioned the National Regulatory Commission for authorization to RAISE the public dose limits for nuclear radiation and to end any differential dose to pregnant women, embryos, fetuses, and children less than 18 years of age. Thankfully the public was protected when the National Regulatory Commission rejected the hormesis petition on 8/17/21.
